Strategic Communication Concentration Fall Information Session

Strategic Communication Information Sessions Give Students Insight on Growing Opportunities in Communication

San Bernardino, Calif.- On Tuesday, September 21 from noon-1 p.m., Jessica Nerren, a public relations and strategic communication full-time lecturer at CSUSB is holding a zoom information session for students about the different explorative opportunities and career benefits within the strategic communication concentration.   

A strategic communication concentration is beneficial within the realm of employment as the field of public relations is projected to grow 7% by 2028, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. With the field of strategic communication being so versatile a strategic communication degree could be utilized in lieu of an English, journalism, or advertising degree. Skillsets learned within the communication field can be taken anywhere in the world with an average starting rate of pay at $60,000 per year.

“Our concentration is amazing and we have prepared students who have gone on to work at NASA, the Library of Congress, and more. Sometimes our future students have questions and we want to make sure to do everything we can to be available to anticipate and answer their questions with information about what Strategic Communication is and where this concentration can take them. I have been a PR professional for over 18 years, owning an agency that I founded in the Inland Empire. I truly believe in the power of PR and Strategic Communication.”

ABOUT THE STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION INFO SESSION: The information sessions will explain how strategic communication utilizes traditional and digital communication skills to make connections with the public and different brands. Attendees will additionally learn about various skill sets that come with strategic communication such as leadership, social media administration, and crisis management. The session will also provide a clearer understanding of what the communication department at CSUSB has to offer, including film studies classes, graphic design opportunities, and practicum classes in radio and newspaper.
