Learning in College is a Major Choice

Learn how CSUSB’s Communication Studies major can help you!

Here at CSUSB we offer strong degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dynamic and growing, the communication department has the largest number of undergraduate majors of any department in the College of Arts and Letters.

Students interested in studying communications can choose from one of three concentrations to pursue: media studies, relational and organizational communication, and strategic communication.

Media studies teaches students how to navigate an increasingly mediated and information-infused environment by developing their media literacy skills, theoretical and critical competence, as well as aesthetic and ethical sensibilities.

Relational and organizational communication will help students learn and practice listening, writing, interpersonal communication, interviewing, networking, leadership, conflict management, and intercultural communication.

Strategic communication is a comprehensive communication concentration blending traditional and digital communication skills that prepare students for careers in the global workforce.

Individuals with a background or degree in communication have the proficiency, experience and tools to pursue any career path they wish.

Richard Branson, English business mogul, investor and author, states the ability to communicate is "the most important skill any entrepreneur can possess.” Through courses in communication, students learn to describe, interpret and evaluate the communication processes as they occur within and among individuals, groups, organizations and societies.

If you enjoy experiences that reach beyond your comfort zone, you seek hands-on, out-of-classroom experiences and want to maximize your career opportunities when you graduate, communication studies is how to get there. Learning what to say, how to say it, when it needs to be said.
